Taishoike Pond is a natural pond in Kamikochi, Nagano.
This place is characterized by the sight of the majestic Hotaka Mountain Range reflected in the water with dying trees.
It is also popular among photographers for the mysterious sight of standing old trees floating in the early morning mist.
Taishoike Pond was created when the Azusa River flowing through Kamikochi was blocked by lava from the 1915 eruption of Mt. Yake. The current landscape may gradually disappear due to the fact that the pond has become shallower in recent years due to the influx of sediment.
