Kappa Bridge is a bridge located in Kamikochi, Nagano.
It is a suspension bridge spanning the Azusa River in Kamikochi, one of the most popular mountain resorts in Japan. The current bridge is the fifth generation, having been replaced in 1997.
Ryunosuke Akutagawa, one of Japan’s most famous writers, praised the Kappa Bridge in his writings. Indeed, it is a spot that has been loved by many for a long time.
The view of the Hotaka Mountain Range and its ponds and streams offer beautiful scenes of nature at its most magnificent. From fresh green to autumn leaves, you are sure to enjoy the ever-changing scenery of the mountainous regions of Japan.

Take a train for Matsumoto(松本) Station from Sinjuku(新宿) Station on the Limited Express Azusa, and then transfer to the The Kamikochi Line bound for Shin-Shimashima(新島々) Station. It takes a total 3 hour and 10 minutes. From Shin-shimashima Station, take the local bus or taxi for Kamikochi takes about an hour. There are restrictions on entry by private vehicles throughout the year. It is necessary to transfer to a bus or cab at each parking lot. | |
